History

Cool Spring United Methodist Church located in Delaplane, was built in the 1850's but traces its roots to the establishment of Leeds Parish in 1769.

At that time, four meeting houses were built in Fauquier and Prince William counties to serve all denominations.  It is believed  that one of these early churches was built directly across the road from the present-day Cool Spring Church.

During the mid-1850's, the old meeting house fell into disrepair and land across the road was sold to the Methodist congregation for a new church by the Shacklett family.

The present brick church was completed in 1858 and featured the traditional segregated balcony and separate doors on the front for men and women.

The church suffered extensive damage when it was occupied by the Union troops during the Civil War.
